Embry’s paintings are full of contradictions – they are rich and raw, haunting and joyous, alluring and repellent. They’re too controlled to be considered merely stream of consciousness meanderings, but they are very direct and spontaneous images.
…He used creamy oil sticks, watercolor and ink to produce the vibrant and luscious surfaces of his paintings. His color is briliant, high-pitched and fearless.
